Promotion _Icon _80x 80Head out with confidence.  With three levels of integrated signal technology - GPS positioning, a powerful 406 MHz signal and 121.5 MHz homing capability - the SARLink™ quickly and accurately relays your position to a worldwide network of Search and Rescue satellites, reducing search time and increasing your chances of survival.  It's reliable signaling technology that has saved more than 28,000 lives since 1982.

The SARLink™ broadcasts a unique registered distress signal that not only tells rescuers where you are, but who you are. The onboard GPS can fix your position to within 100 meters and then utilizes a powerful 406 MHz signal to relay your distress call to orbiting SAR satellites. As local Search and Rescue is deployed, a separate homing signal and integrated LED strobe light guide rescuers to your location.

The SARLink is light in weight and small enough to be easily carried in a pack or pocket by skiers, hikers, hunters, kayakers, climbers, pilots, snowmobilers or any other outdoor enthusiast. Performing a full functional self-test of the PLB's internal circuitry, battery voltage & power and 406 MHz transmission gives you the peace of mind knowing your PLB will work the moment you need it the most.  ACR Exclusive: Built-in GPS acquisition test mode allows you to test GPS functionality up to 12 times over the life of the battery life.

I Wish I Had Bought This The First Time
July 12, 2011 | By SnowGoAK from Anchorage via REI.com

I was looking at this unit last fall because of recommendations from friends, but the price tag was a bit more than I wanted to spend. I ended up buying the less expensive subscription based Spot2. What a mistake. I spent the next several months with a defective product going through a recall with no replacements available and horrible customer service from Spot. I finally returned the Spot2 and purchased this ACR SARLink. I wish I hadn't been so cheap and bought this unit in the first place. It is a bit more expensive, but doesn't have subscription costs and when you actually compare the hardware you realize this is on another level. It has with much more powerful transmissions, multiple redundancies, and is built to military and Coast Guard specs. If you are looking for a device of last resort that could potentially save your life, I would highly recommend spending a few more bucks and getting a true PLB such as this.

Something I now always carry into the wilderness

A great backup to my 121.5 ELT
July 12, 2011 | By From Sportys.com

Pros: A great backup to my 121.5 ELT without the expense of converting to a 406mhz ELT. Easy to use and easy to register with great sequential instructions. Cons: You have to either activate prior to an off field landing, or hope you are in condition to do so afterwards. In the event of a successful off field landing, it is easy to cancel the distress call. General Comments: I keep my ACR SARLink PLB in the glove compartment of my 172A. My plan is activate in the event of an off field landing that appears less than ideal. I also keep it handy when sailing the coastal waters of NC. Activation is simple and only takes a couple seconds.

I bought this as a gift for a good friend
July 12, 2011 | By From Sportys.com Pilot Mall

Pros: I bought this as a gift for a good friend of mine that fishes 30 to 50 miles out in the gulf. I believed it was a gift god forbid it would be needed. But if it was needed it would save a life. Cons: We will truly never know how good it is until it is used. I count it as cheap insurance. If you ask someone how much they are willing to spend to stay alive I bet they would spend much more than the cost of this device. I plan on purchasing one for myself. I fly and if there ever is an issue I certainly would like to have it as an option. It was recommended at an FAA class on flying to Alaska. It has multiple applications. Camping hiking in remote areas. As I stated at the beginning what are you willing to spend to be alive??

Q: Whats the difference between the AquaLink models and the SARLink Models?

The quick answer is flotation.

The AquaLink and AquaLink View Personal Locator Beacons are buoyant so you can retrieve them should you ever accidentally drop them in the ocean, lake or in a river.

The SARLink and SARLink View Personal Locator Beacons have a slimmed down back case to make them slightly smaller but these models will not float.

Q: What do PLBs do?

Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) are distress radio beacons which transmit location information about individuals directly to Search and Rescue forces letting them know that the owner is in grave and imminent danger.

Q: Where can I purchase a beacon?

Visit our Where To Buy dealer locator

Q: Can 406 MHz beacons be used anywhere in the world?

Yes, 406 MHz beacons can be used anywhere in the world, including the Poles.

Q: Is there a subscription fee for beacon registration or rescue service?

Beacon registration is free, should you ever have to activate your beacon, rescue is free in most parts of the world.

Q: When do you use a Beacon?

Most Search-and-Rescue (SAR) organizations instruct that beacons are satellite signaling devices of last resort, for use when all other means of self-rescue have been exhausted, where the situation is grave with imminent danger and the loss of life, limb, eyesight or valuable property will occur without assistance.
