Product News: Size it up, Bigger isn’t always better.

ACR is proud to introduce the ResQfix™ and MicrOfix™ 406 GPS Personal Locator Beacons, Our newest, smallest and most powerful Personal Locator Beacons ever. Now 35% smaller by volume then the AquaFix™, TerraFix™ and AeroFix™.

We have taken 50 years of experience building life saving products and crammed it all into our newest 10 oz PLB. One of ACR’s main philosophies is that we build products based on how they are going to be used, not solely on meeting the product requirements outlined by governing agencies. Our new ResQFix™ and MicrOFix™ are great examples of this. PLBs are required to operate for a minimum of 24 straight hours at -4 degrees Fahrenheit. The typical operating life of the ResQFix™ and MicrOFix™ at these temperatures is over 40 hours. You might be stranded someplace that takes a day to reach you by foot, or by boat, so all that extra time can be critical so that Search and Rescue forces can reach your location. Hopefully, you do not need the entire 40 hours, hopefully you never need to activate your PLB, but isn’t it a secure feeling knowing you have that extra horse power just in case!

GPS technology played a key role in the development of this product. With the purchase of a new GPS Satellite simulator, we were able to better understand how to get our built-in -136 dBm GPS receivers to work to their maximum capabilities. Typically it takes a GPS receiver a few minutes to turn on and learn its position on the planet, we have been able to greatly reduce this time so that your GPS coordinates can be delivered to search parties even faster. Testing has shown that once activated, your GPS coordinates can be transmitted and received by the proper authorities in as little as three minutes. That is a huge advantage to have when your life is hanging in the balance. The faster searchers can get to your position, the greater your chances of survival.

Not only are the ResQFix™ and MicrOFix™ the smallest PLBs ever designed, they are also the easiest to use. Simply deploy the antenna, which will uncover the activation button, and with one simple press of a button, help will be on its way. It’s that simple!!

In an emergency, the ResQFix™ and MicrOFix™ transmits on 406 MHz via the COSPAS-SARSAT satellite system with the sender’s unique registered, digitally coded distress signal. Emergency officials monitoring the system not only will be able to tell who is sending the signal (thanks to the coding and registration data) but they will use Doppler shift to locate the PLBs location. If GPS data is present in any of the transmission the search area is narrowed down to roughly 110 yards (100 meters). The ResQFix™ and MicrOFix™ also simultaneously transmit a signal on the 121.5 MHz (SAR homing frequency) to assist rescuers homing in on your location.

People always ask us, what is the best beacon to have? Our answer is simple, the one that you have with you when you need it. That answer played a pivotal role in the design of the attachment clips for the ResQFix™ and MicroFix™. We didn’t want a clip similar to that used on a cell phone because they are weak and brittle; we designed robust clips that will accommodate your extreme adventures. Whether it is attached to a belt, a life jacket or a backpack, rest assured your PLB is close at hand should anything happen.

The combination of functional design, high quality raw materials and quality controlled manufacturing produce a PLB that can be relied upon to perform consistently every time. When the situation is bleak, count on a brand with a proven track record, count on ACR.
