Despite Wilmašs Wrath ACR Electronics Continued to do Business

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL-- When it comes to surviving the worst mother nature can muster, ACR Electronics is perhaps the country's leading advocate of being prepared.

The global manufacturer of safety and survival technologies was near ground zero when Hurricane Wilma whipped across South Florida last week downing trees, raising roofs and snapping power lines.

On Tuesday, one day after the storm, ACR was back in business, in spite of a near countywide blackout and spotty, if non-existent, phone service.

"We meet the challenges head-on by following our disaster recovery plan," said Chris Wahler, Director of Marketing.

Wahler said ACR maintained communications with customers and reps by establishing a remote office, with internet, fax and banks of cell phones, while the factory was operational due to its backup generator.

"We kept the line of communications open and continued to accept orders, build and ship products," said Wahler. "Being prepared is 90% of the battle in situations like this. Living in South Florida, we've long had a hurricane contingency plan in place and thanks to the support of dedicated employees, we've managed to keep doing business despite the outages and disruptions."

According to Wahler, 90% of ACR's employees returned to work in spite of personal losses from the storm. He said as of last Friday, all power and communications were restored to the ACR facility.
