C. Vendrell May 10, 2005 ACR Electronics, Inc. and Maritime Information Systems AS (MARIS) Announce Strategic Alliance FORT LAUDERDALE, FL--MAY 18, 2005-- ACR Electronics, Inc. (www.acrelectronics.com) and Maritime Information Systems AS MARIS (www.maris.no) today announced an alliance to share proprietary software, engineering and manufacturing systems to more aggressively and effectively design, build and bring to market a suite of maritime information and safety electronics systems. "This is a very important collaboration providing ACR with access to exclusive bridge information system software and engineering, and gives MARIS broadened manufacturing capabilities, better purchasing power in sourcing materials and a fast lane into expanded global marketing channels," said Paul Frank, President of the Fort Lauderdale-based ACR Electronics. ACR, which has been manufacturing safety and survival technologies for the military, marine, aviation and outdoor markets since 1956, entered the field of marine bridge safety electronics in 2003 when its parent company, Chelton Ltd., a member of the Cobham plc Group, acquired Austria-based Nauticast, AG, an Automatic Identification System (AIS) supplier. ACR markets AIS under the GlobalWatch™ and GlobalWatch2™ brands. Steinar Gundersen, managing director for MARIS, a private limited company headquartered in Tonsberg Norway, said ACR's long-standing global reputation as the world's premier manufacturer of safety and survival technologies is a good fit for MARIS. "Though we have very successfully delivered more than 1,500 navigation systems to customers in more than 30 countries, this alliance with ACR will create a formidable force in meeting the growing global demand for bridge-based information systems," he said. It is estimated that some 55,000 commercial vessels are in the process of meeting international agency mandates or will be upgrading and adding bridge information and security systems over the course of the next several years. Through the alliance, ACR will re-brand several systems in the MARIS line and will use its extended sales network to sell to and install commercial maritime and super and luxury yacht customers. MARIS will continue to market its brands through its existing distribution network. The marine bridge safety electronics systems included in the alliance are: --Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) and Simplified Voyage Data Recorder (S-VDR) The VDR and the S-VDR are designed to record and maintain the ship's data. Like the black boxes on aircraft, VDR and S-VDR provide accident investigators with information recorded before an incident. MARIS will supply the VDR and S-VDR technology, ACR will design and manufacture the self-deploying memory capsule for the S-VDR. --Electronic Chart and Information System (ECDIS) The MARIS ECDIS900 offers a total navigation situation appraisal on one integrated display, including charts and, when integrated, ARPA radar and AIS thus eliminating the need to move between instruments. --Pilot Mate Developed in close cooperation with Deep-Sea Pilots in the United Kingdom and the Norwegian Coastal Administration, the Pilot Mate is a realtime navigation tool based on ECDIS software. --PC Radar Kit An ARPA radar overlay allows users to turn their PC into an advanced radar and tracking system. The PC Radar Kit can be combined with a compatible Electronic Chart System to display the radar image on top of the chart. ACR Electronics, Inc.
