John Bell ACR EPIRBs Selected by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority FORT LAUDERDALE, FL—DECEMBER 14, 2007—Believed to be Australia’s largest single contract for EPIRBs (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons), the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has approved a multi-year commitment with RFD Australia to purchase over 500 EPIRBs manufactured by U.S.-based ACR Electronics, Inc. RFD, a world leading manufacturer of marine safety products and inflatable watercraft, and an ACR distributor, said the contract called for several hundred SATELLITE2 406™ and GlobalFix™ ACR EPIRB models. The tender for the EPIRBs was let and managed by AMSA, which is responsible for setting and regulating standards for the operation of commercial shipping, the operation of an extensive network of marine navigation aids around the Australian coast, aviation and maritime search and rescue, and the protection of the marine environment. The ACR SATELLITE2 406™ EPIRBs are destined for Thursday Island where local Water Police will make the EPIRBs available to local citizens. The GlobalFix™ 406 EPIRBs are to be used by a variety of government agencies in Brisbane. Acknowledging the OH&S implications of providing a safe work environment for employees who go to work on the water, these EPIRBs are to be directed to agencies that include Water Police, Customs and Coast Watch. According to Warren Levin, National Defense Manager at RFD Australia, securing the AMSA contract for EPIRBs has been “a giant accolade for both the ACR branded product and RFD.” “Winning the contract with the Australian agency responsible for maritime safety for the supply of EPIRBs say a lot about the ACR brand and RFD,” he said. “There is no doubt in my mind that RFD won the contract with a product that boasts superior quality while at the same time is well priced.” RFD is primarily involved in the supply and service of marine, fire, life support and gas control equipment. RFD also distributes a range of brands including Aquapro inflatable boats, Plastimo boating equipment and Aquaglide water sport products. ACR Electronics, Inc., www.acrelectronics.com, part of Cobham’s Avionics and Surveillance Division, designs and manufactures a complete line of safety and survival products including EPIRBs, PLBs, SSAS, AIS, SARTs and safety accessories. The quality systems of this facility have been registered by UL to the ISO 9001:2000 Series Standards.
